The Children's Parade 2006

On Saturday 8th May I went to the Children's Parade 2006. This is the start of the Brighton Festival when all the primary schools in Brighton and Hove get together and have a big, big, ginormous parade. But unfortunately it rained. I went as a banana with St Bartholomews School! Other schools went dressed up as Charlie & Lola, party things, giant jam sandwiches, cooks, Oliver Twist and red hot chilli peppers. The coostumes were very well made. I held two palm leaves and a banana. It was quite a long walk. We stopped at the seaside and sang 'City by the Sea' - this is how it goes:

So where would we be if we lived somewhere else?
This is the city where ev’ryone meets
The tourists that drift in and out with the tide
Flooding the sea and the streets

THIS IS OUR CITY
BY THE SEA, YOU AND ME, AND WE’RE SINGING OUR SONG
THIS IS OUR CITY
BY THE SEA, YOU AND ME, IT’S THE PLACE TO BELONG
ALL DAY LONG

The city that’s home to us all takes a bow
And all the seagulls are screaming for more
The doughnuts and dodgems, the ups and the downs
We’re coming home to the shore

THIS IS OUR CITY
BY THE SEA, YOU AND ME, AND WE’RE SINGING OUR SONG
THIS IS OUR CITY
BY THE SEA, YOU AND ME, IT’S THE PLACE TO BELONG
CAN’T GO WRONG

We’re part of the story that starts with ourselves
The story ends where the sea meets the sky
We grow with the city that loves changing lives
All we can do is to try

THIS IS OUR CITY
BY THE SEA, YOU AND ME, AND WE’RE SINGING OUR SONG
THIS IS OUR CITY
BY THE SEA, YOU AND ME, IT’S THE PLACE TO BELONG
THIS IS OUR CITY
BY THE SEA, YOU AND ME, ARE YOU SINGING ALONG?
THIS IS OUR CITY
LAUGHING IN A
CRYING IN A
GROWING IN A
PLAYING IN A
DANCING IN A
GIVING IN A
LIVING IN A CITY BY THE SEA

This is the biscuit lady. Every school had to put a biscuit in the slot.
